1:2 Webcast & Forum: The future of new media research and scholarly publishing - [recording to come]

The Future of New Media Research and Scholarly Publishing

IJLM 1:2 Forum | July 2009

IJLM Editors host a panel discussion among authors and invited guests about the aim of IJLM, in particular, how new media might be more significantly integrated into research and scholarly publishing. IJLM Webcasts and Forum provide space for fostering a scholarly discourse among contributors and readers, integrating text, audio and slides excerpted from recorded discussions among IJLM authors, editors and invited guests.

This forum refers to a number of articles in Volume 1, Issue 2, and was kicked off with a quote from contributor James Gee:

"... pretend we are experts in a field that as of yet has none. I propose that we treat each other as students working over problems as if they are well established even if they are not, so we actually know concretely what each other think and value, as a starting point, not a finished point. Then we can imagine together new ways to think and work and, if successful, actually end up with exemplars for a new field. These exemplars, if the field ever emerges, will, in turn, be used as worked examples for new students in the field. Maybe this “game” will accelerate the growth of a new field, but it will be a fine enough outcome if it serves merely to create collaboration and the emergence of common ground through interaction and debate..."
