Engaging the Public Domain
This missive argues for the need to teach about the public domain and use public domain materials. Through teaching about the public domain, we can restore a sense of balance about the social function of copyright law. Additionally, through creating access to public domain works and reshaping them, we promote the new media literacies of networking and appropriation.
